Shape

Try Barilla’s Gluten Free Penne pasta! Penne is one of the most famous Italian pasta shapes and is loved across Italy. Penne, which means “Pen” in Italian, gets the name from its tubular shape with angled ends, which is inspired by the quill of an old-style ink pen.

Texture

Barilla’s Gluten Free Penne pasta is designed for meats, vegetables, cheeses and oil or butter-based sauces. It is perfect for baked dishes made with sauce and cheese. Penne all’Arrabbiata – Penne with a spicy tomato sauce – is a favorite Italian dish among many others.

Preparing This Pasta

1. Bring 4 – 6 quarts of water to a rolling boil, add salt to taste. 2. Add contents of package to the boiling water. Stir gently. 3. Return to a boil. For authentic “al dente” pasta, boil uncovered, stirring occasionally for 10 minutes. For more tender pasta, boil for an additional 1 minute. 4. Remove from heat. Drain well. 5. Serve immediately with your favorite Barilla sauce.

Barilla comes through My son is celiac so we know a lot about GF products. I’ve tried over a dozen GF pastas and this is maybe the best. I was really surprised that a mass market product like this would be so good.It cooks up nicely and has a good firm texture and good taste. It doesn’t overcook quickly like a lot of GF pastas. It’s not much different than regular Barilla pasta. It’s made from a corn/rice mix. Our usual GF pasta is a corn/quinoa mix, and probably has better nutritional…

Surprisingly good for gluten free. My wife has been on a gluten free diet for a few years now, which means I get to try a lot of gluten free food too. It’s just too much trouble to prepare two separate pans of pasta all the time so when we make pasta (which is often, since we are Italian), I eat what she eats. We have tried a variety of gluten free pastas and the vast majority suck. Most have a bitter or strong nutty/soy flavor and they are difficult to cook. Many are tough. We found one rice pasta that was passable but…
